President’s Letter: Learning Is a Lifelong Adventure

As president, I get the privilege to lead a passionate Board of Governors that is dedicated to ensuring your membership value while positioning ILEA for the future. I’m excited to provide some updates regarding professional development, education and leadership.
Later this month, ILEA will hold our first Chapter Leaders Summit of 2019 in Fort Worth, Texas, with a second summit a week later in Chicago. This annual gathering of leaders from around the globe prepares chapter elected officials for the coming year. Overall chapter education has been reconfigured, and this event has been intentionally designed to include essential tools, resources and updates to help our chapter leaders do their work effectively. Our revised year-round education programming provides chapters with training on a variety of relevant topics delivered strategically throughout the year. Whether through monthly live webinars, a revamped chapter operations manual, videos or tool kits, chapters play an important role for member value, building relationships and membership growth.
ILEA Live will take place 8–10 August in Minneapolis. You can kick off your ILEA Live experience by attending Leadership Live, a pre-conference opportunity for leadership programming for all event professionals. Leadership Live features two days of keynote speakers and industry peer exchanges to develop your influence and management skills. This year’s ILEA Live has already announced a fantastic lineup of idea generators and trendsetters, with a mix of off-site experiences for inspiration and networking opportunities to build meaningful connections with a global network of experienced live events professionals. An additional opportunity for continuing education is the Education Spotlight Series — live webinars on industry topics for ILEA members. If you aren’t able to make the live webinar, the recordings are available to members. We also launched a series of Quick Tips videos. Quick Tips are videos that share ideas and tips in minutes for members only to help your business succeed. You can find these videos in the ILEA Communities.
Your Board of Governors is hard at work ensuring the right strategy and resources are in place to help ILEA carve out a bright future. I am excited for what is ahead for our members and this organization. I hope you will continue to be a part of our success, so let’s keep talking.
