Denver A-to-Z: 5 Places to Be Inspired

Thursday, May 3, 2018

By Tera Greenwood

It’s only April, but you’d be surprised how quickly August and the ILEA Live 2018 conference will be upon us. In the spirit of looking forward to the future, as a Denver resident and chair of ILEA Live 2018, I want to share with you some of the destinations the city has to offer to get you as excited for the conference as I am! We’ll have more cool spots to share with you in the coming months in this Denver A-to-Z series, inspired by the exhibit at the History Colorado Center (also the location for the ILEA Live Opening Event!).

A – A place to wind down, Larimer Square

Known as Denver’s oldest and most historic block, Larimer Square has recently also become quite hip. It features some of the Mile High City’s best restaurants, such as Rioja and Tag, and is a perfect place to wind down after a long day at ILEA Live. See for yourself.

B – Big, Blue Bear

Although you wouldn’t think a convention center has much to offer culture wise, the Colorado Convention Center’s iconic blue bear sculpture is a 40-foot sight to behold. Hear from the artist himself in this interview on Visit Denver’s website.

C – Saint Cajetan Church

If what you’re looking for is something even more historical — say, something on the National Register of Historical Places — then you’ll definitely want to head to Saint Cajetan Church while you’re in Denver. The parish has a fascinating history, which you can read about here. On top of that, the building is stunning.

D – Dine in at Union Station

On the Union Station website, it states “the newest Denver destination is over 100 years old.” That’s because the beautiful old building has been modernized while keeping its pioneer spirit. There’s truly something for everyone here: you can get high-end, dine-in food; a quick burger or brat; check out some local crafts and jewelry at the many boutiques; and more. Learn more here.

E – Emilio and Gloria Estefan’s “On Your Feet!” at Buell Theatre

Want to take a break from running around at ILEA Live? Go see “On Your Feet!”, the story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan, and watch the performers run around instead. The show is up from 8-19 August, so you’ll have a chance to catch it while you’re there. Watch an interview of Emilio and Gloria talking about the show here.

Stay tuned in the coming weeks for the next installment of Denver A-to-Z!
