President’s Letter: ILEA Members Drive Real Results, Real Impact
Monday, March 19, 2018
On 12 April, leaders from across the meetings and events industry will come together to showcase the value resulting from the live events, meetings, conferences and conventions industry for Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID).
As an organization, one of ILEA’s strategic areas of work is to elevate our voice in the live events industry, and to position our members as experts when it comes to planning, executing, and post event production. By supporting GMID, we have a global platform to tell the story around the unique value and benefits of live events.
A new report by Oxford Economics affirms that face-to-face business events not only play a critical role in connecting people and driving business results, they also support 5.9 million jobs and hundreds of billions of dollars in annual revenue for the U.S. economy. You can learn more about the economic impact of face-to-face meetings and events from the 2018 report from the Events Industry Council, an organization that ILEA participates in annually.
You can participate by attending one of many registered GMID events around the globe – including events hosted by our ILEA chapters. There are a variety of GMID events, such as rallies, press conferences, speaking panels, educational events, award presentations, proclamations and more. Find one close to you, and attend! There is also information about hosting a GMID event available.
On the day of the event, whether you are attending an event in-person or not, I invite you to use the #GMID18 hashtag in your social media posts. Let's make sure ILEA and live events are part of the conversation! Share event photos and recaps throughout the day, and invite the media and elected officials to attend GMID events.
This year’s theme is “Real results, real impact, all around the world,” and as members of ILEA and the live events community, your role in helping corporations, associations, families and individuals tell their story through live events cannot be underestimated or undervalued. You work in an industry that is essential to the economy, an industry that's creative, an industry that helps people communicate, and we thank each of you for everything that you do for it.
Live events themselves are about the great results that happen when professionals come together, so I ask you to come together for GMID to create real results and real impact.
Until next time…
Ingrid Nagy, CSEP
ILEA President
